WELCOME to the Stroke Recovery Association (SRA) of Edmonton.  We are a “unique” Support Group for SURVIVORS of Stroke, their Caregivers and Loved Ones who come to the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, on the last Monday of each month to meet, socialize and hear a special guest speaker.  These meetings occur during the months of September, October, November, January, February, March, April and May.  In December, we host an Annual Christmas Pot-Luck Dinner and in June, we host an Annual SRA Picnic!  We do not meet over the summer months (July & August) but we do have an answering machine at (780) 485-3052 and you can always leave a message and someone will get back to you. 

My name is Gladys Marie Magega (Caregiver for my Mom) and on October 27^th, 2008 at the SRA Annual General Meeting, I was once again elected as your President.  Our Vice-President is Marie Connell (she’s a caregiver for her sister-in-law Kathleen Brown & is on the Phoning Committee).  Our Treasurers for another year are Fred (a Stroke Survivor) and his wife Alice Chow!  Our Recording Secretary is Jorie Clements from E.B.I.R.’s.  Our Newsletter Editor is Craig Roxburgh, but Craig is leaving us at the end of this year.  Anyone who knows someone who would like to “volunteer” & fill this position as Newsletter Editor and maintain our Website, please contact any one of us.  Our Board of Directors is:  Bev Decore (Past President), Michele Clapp (on the Phoning Committee), Joan McCreight (she’s a Caregiver for her son Shawn & on the Phoning Committee), Shawn McCreight (Stroke Survivor), Sharon Anderson (Caregiver for her husband) and Randy Bell (Stroke Survivor).  A Huge THANK YOU to all of these Members for taking on these “Volunteer” positions for the 2008 - 2009 Membership year!  The SRA of Edmonton would like to give a Huge THANK YOU to the out-going members: Craig Roxburgh, Richard & Anne Feilden, Cindy Schulz & Andrea Ruelling

(was Brown) both from the Glenrose Hospital for their dedicated service as “Volunteer” Board Members-at-Large.  We wish you all the very best!     

If you are “new” to our Stroke Support Group, we are very happy you have come to visit us!  If you are a paid member - Thank You for your “financial support” to our membership!  If you are a non-paid member – PLEASE see Fred or Alice Chow at the meeting and they will gladly take your membership money and get you paid-up and in “good standing”!   Our membership fees are very reasonable at $10.00 for a single person or $15.00 for a family, for the year!  We also welcome charitable donations and a tax receipt will be issued to you for them.  We are a “non-profit” organization but we do have some expenses to be paid.

Our next big event is our 3^rd Annual Christmas Pot-Luck Dinner that will be held here at the Glenrose Hospital on Monday, Dec. 8^th, 2008.  It will start at 6:30 p.m. but feel free to arrive around 6:00 p.m.  Please contact Joan McCreight at (780) 484-2734 and let her know what you plan to bring.  During some recent discussions, we have decided rather than exchanging Christmas gifts, we would appreciate if each person attending could bring some “non-perishable food items” for the “Food Bank” and in this way, we can make a few other people have an enjoyable Festive Holiday Season too!  We hope you will join us!
